How the Fund Is Invested

North Dakota is turning energy revenue into long-term financial security meant to last for generations.

The Money Comes In

Oil and gas will not produce forever. So, every month, 30% of the state's oil and gas tax revenue is set aside in the Legacy Fund instead of being spent.

The Money Gets Invested

The Fund doesn't sit in a bank account. It's invested in stocks, bonds, real estate, and private companies around the world — and a share of it stays right here in North Dakota.

How the Legacy Fund Works

Investment Policy

The Legacy Fund is managed under a formal Investment Policy Statement that defines its goals, acceptable risk and long-term asset allocation.
